Energy Management

We are implementing an Energy Management Plan to reduce our consumption of electricity, gas, and water. This involves:

  • Upgrading to energy-efficient lighting and appliances
  • Monitoring and reducing water usage
  • Encouraging guests and staff to participate in energy-saving initiatives

Water-Saving Initiatives

We recognise the important of reducing water waste and have introduced the following initiatives:

  • Low-flow taps and showers in guest rooms, public restrooms and staff areas
  • Toilet flush reduction systems to minimise excess water usage
  • Reusing towels and linens - guests can opt to reuse their towels and linen to help save water and energy
  • Rainwater harvesting for use in waterford flowers and our greenhouse
  • Staff training on water-efficient cleaning methods in all departments

Waste Reduction & Recycling

In 2024 we recycled 74.9% of our waste and our aim for 2025 is to achieve 80%. We are committed to minimising waste through:

  • A comprehensive food waste management system in our kitchen
  • Recycling programs for glass paper, an plastic
  • Elimination of single-use plastics in our guest rooms and food service areas

Sustainable Sourcing

  • We prioristise local suppliers to reduce our carbon footprint and support the community
  • Our kitchen team sources fresh, seasonal and sustainable ingredients
  • We work with suppliers who share our commitment to ethical and sustainable practices

Guest Participation

We invite our guests to join our sustainability efforts by:

  • Reusing towels and linens to reduce water for energy consumption
  • Supporting our Charity of the Year, Waterford Hospice, through optional donations
  • Choosing to dine with us, knowing that we prioritise sustainability in our food and beverage offerings

Our Green Team

Our Green Team actively works on new sustainability initiatives and ensures that our hotel meets its environmental goals. In 2025, we are focusing on:

  • Expanding our recycling and composting efforts
  • Enhancing sustainable purchasing policies
  • Increasing awareness among staff and guests about eco-friendly practices

Plunkett Train Station, Waterford is located on the North Quay, approximately 10 minutes walk from the Granville Hotel. There are regular train services to Waterford from Dublin, Rosslare and Limerick. Iarnrod Eireann timetables and route planners can be accessed on the Irish Rail website.

 BUS:

Bus Éireann is a bus and coach operator providing services throughout the Repulic of Ireland. The bus station is located 2 minutes walk from the Granville Hotel on the Quay in Waterford City. Bus Éireann timetable and route planners can ve accessed on the Bus Éireann website.

 CAR:

If travelling by car, there are EV Chargers just 500m from our hotel.

 

Bike hire is available from Waterford Greenway Bike Hire for exploring the wider Waterford region such as the Waterford Greenway. For more local bike travel, the TFI Shared Bike Scheme has also made its way to Waterford City. More information can be found here
